The opera about the late tech leader presented a challenge to the opera-talent incubator.

SANTA FE, N.M.—“Many of us want to change the world. Steve Jobs did.” Or so, plausibly, claims the brochure for this season’s Santa Fe Opera, which has just premiered a full-length, one-act opera titled The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs.

The creative entrepreneur who gave the world Apple hardware and software, yanking even the most reluctant of us into the computer age, may not seem the likeliest of subjects for tenors and sopranos. But Santa Fe Opera, currently under the direction of Charles MacKay, is no ordinary opera company.
