The Staatsoper Hannover’s intendant Laura Berman will end her contract earlier than expected.

In a statement, the company said, “State Opera director Laura Berman will end her contract at the end of the 2024-25 season. After six years as director of the Hanover State Opera, Laura Berman would like to turn to other tasks. The Supervisory Board complied with this request and agreed to her wish.”

Breman said, “I would like to thank the supervisory board for understanding my decision to leave the Staatsoper Hannover in the summer of 2025 and for releasing me from my contractual obligations ahead of time. I am proud of what we have achieved so far for the State Opera, including the State Orchestra and State Ballet, and I look forward to two more seasons in which I will continue along this path together with my team.”

Berman announced back in July of 2022 that she was extending her initial contract until 2029. She began her tenure with the company during the 2019-20 season. She was previously the opera director at the Theater Basel.
