Atalla Ayan, Iréne Theorin & Michael Mayes Lead Staatsoper Stuttgart’s 2023-24 Season

The Staatsoper Stuttgart has announced its 2023-24 season.

Premieres 

The first new production of the season will be Strauss’ “Die frau ohne Schatten” with Benjamin Bruns, Simone Schneider, Evelyn Herlitzius, Martin Gantner, and Iréne Theorin. Cornelius Meister conducts the production by David Hermann.

Performance Dates: Oct. 29-Dec. 2, 2023

“La Fest,” featuring music by Vivaldi and Händel, will star Claudia Muschio, Natasha Te Rupe Wilson, Diana Haller, Yuriy Mynenko, Alberto Robert, Elliott Carlton Hines. Benjamin Bayl conducts the production by Eric Gauthier.

Performance Dates: Dec. 3, 2023-Jan. 25, 2024

Bernhard Lang’s “Dora” will be directed by  Elisabeth Stöppler and conducted by Elena Schwarz. The cast will include Josefin Feiler, Shannon Keegan, Dominic Große, Maria Theresa Ullrich, Stephan Bootz, Marcel Beekman, and Elliott Carlton Hines.

Performance Dates: March 3-April 4, 2024

Kurt Weill’s “Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny” will star Elmar Gilbertsson, Joshua Bloom, Ida Ränzlöv, Kai Kluge, and Björn Bürger. Cornelius Meister conducts the new production by Ulrike Schwab.

Performance Dates: May 11-June 29, 2024

Kristina Stanek, Selene Zanetti, Ernesto Petti, and Atalla Ayan lead a new production of Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” with Antonello Manacorda conducting. The production will be directed by Paul-Georg Dittrich.

Performance Dates: June 9-July 16, 2024

“Hotel Savoy” will be directed by Corinna von Rad.

Performance Date: June 22, 2024 

Schubert’s “Die schöne Müllerin” will be performed by Sänger Mingjie Lei and Alan Hamilton.

Performance Dates: June 30-July 6, 2024

Revivals

Cornelius Meister and Luka Hauser conduct Verdi’s “Falstaff” with Lucio Gallo in the title role, Paweł Konik, Selene Zanetti, Astrid Kessler, Stine Marie Fischer, and Mingjie Lei.

Performance Dates: Sept. 22-Nov. 27, 2023

Friedrich Haider conducts Bizet’s “Carmen” with Kristina Stanek, Stine Marie Fischer, Attilio Glaser, Atalla Ayan, Łukasz Goliński, David Steffens, Adam Palka, and Maria Theresa Ullrich.

Performance Dates: Sept. 23-Oct. 28, 2023 

Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore” will be conducted by Danila Grassi and Vlad Iftinca. The cast will include Claudia Muschio, Kai Kluge, Charles Sy, Johannes Kammler, Elliott Carlton Hines, and Giorgio Caoduro.

Marx Piollet conducts Janáček’s “Jenůfa” with Esther Dierkes, Matthias Klink, Elmar Gilbertsson, and Rosie Aldridge.

Sebastian Schwab’s “Der Räuber Hotzenplotz” will star Franz Hawlata, Elliott Carlton Hines, and Dominic Große. Florian Ziemen and Christopher Schumann conduct.

Michael Mayes, Shigeo Ishino, Katherine Manley, and Alina Adamski star in John Adams’ “Nixon in China” with André de Ridder conducting.

Mingjie Lei, Charles Sy, Claudia Muschio, Natasha Te Rupe Wilson, David Steffens, Goran Jurić, Beate Ritter, and Alma Ruoqi Sun star in Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte.”
