Opera North Announces Live Performances of ‘Fidelio’

By Francisco Salazar

Opera North has announced new live performances.

The company will present Beethoven’s “Fidelio,” which will be the first large-scale production for over a year as the Company builds back towards a fuller program of public events.

The production will be staged by Matthew Eberhardt and conducted by Paul Daniel. The cast will include Rachel Nicholls as Leonore, Toby Spence as Florestan, Robert Hayward as Don Pizarro, Brindley Sherratt as Rocco, Fflur Wyn as Marzelline, and Oliver Johnston as Jaquino.

The opera will be performed at the Leed Town Hall, the Lowry, Salford Quays, and Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham.

“Fidelio” was originally scheduled to be performed in November 2020 and a subsequent live stream of the opera was filmed behind closed doors at Leeds Town Hall. The same cast now returns to bring this performance to live, socially-distanced audience.

Performances will be held from June 9 to June 19.
