The Glyndebourne has announced its upcoming slate for the 2021 season.

The festival will open in May with Janáček’s “Kát’a Kabanová,” the first time the opera is presented at the festival in 20 years. Director Damiano Michieletto will make his company debut, leading a production that will be conducted by Robin Ticciati and will star Kateřina Knĕžíková in the title role. She will be joined by David Butt Philip and Katarina Dalayman.

The company revealed that it will be performing its first-ever production of Verdi’s “Luisa Miller” in a production starring Kristina Mkhitaryan in the title role. Charles Castronovo and Ivan Magri also take on the role of Rodolfo. Christof Loy directs a production conducted by Enrique Mazzola.

The third new production of the year will be Rossini’s “Il Turco in Italia” with Elena Tsallagova, Mattia Oliveri, and Andrea Mastroni. Mariame Clément directs.

There will be three revivals including a production of “Tristan und Isolde” starring Simon O’Neill, Miina-Liisa Värelä, Karen Cargill, and John Relyea. Robin Ticciati conducts.

Finally, the company will present “Die Zauberflöte” and “Così fan tutte.” The former will star Soloman Howard, Galina Benevich, Paul Appleby, and Johannnes Kammler.  Constantin Trinks conducts.

“Così fan tutte” will star Uda Falk Winland, Stephanie Lauricella, Alexey Neklyudov, and Huw Montague. Riccardo Minasi conducts.
