José Cura & Olga Peretyatko Headline Royal Opera Muscat’s 2019-20 Season

The Royal Opera Muscat has announced its 2019-20 Season.

Bizet’s “Carmen” opens the Royal Opera Muscat season with José Cura in the role of Don José, Elena Maximova in the title role, Anita Hartig as Micaëla and George Petean in the role of Escamillo. The  Teatro Colón Buenos Aires travels with conductor Antonello Allemandi.

Performance Dates: Sept. 11-14, 2019

Celso Albelo and Irina Lungu star in Puccini’s “La Bohème” with the Philharmonique de Monte Carlo and the choir of Opéra de Monte Carlo. The work will be directed by Jean-Louis Grinda and conducted by Giuseppe Finzi.

Performance Dates: Oct. 3-5, 2019

Sergei Banevich’s “The Story of Kai and Gerda” will be presented by the Bolshoi Theatre in a production by Dmitry Belyanuchkin. The opera will be conducted by Anton Grishanin.

Performance Dates: Oct. 31-Nov. 2, 2019

Olga Peretyatko sings the title role in Donizetti’s “Anna Bolena.” The soprano is joined by Maxim Mironov as Lord Percy and Erwin Schrott as Henry VII. Stefano Mazzonis di Pralafera directs the production from the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège with conductor  Giampaolo Bisanti leading the orchestra and chorus.

Performance Dates: Nov. 28-30, 2019

ROHM has created an original production of Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” based on Oman’s cultural traditions by Davide Livermore. The production is set to star Albina Shagimuratova as the Queen of the Night, Antonio Poli as Tamino, and Markus Werba as Papageno.

Performance Dates: Jan. 2-4, 2020

The company is set to give the world premiere of “Tarh El Bahr, The Sea Treasures,” by Monir Elweseimy.

Performance Dates: Feb. 20-21, 2020

Rossini’s “L’Inganno Felice” is brought by the Rossini Opera Festival with Vassilis Kavayas starring the in the lead role. Graham Vick directs the production by Diego Matheuz.

The Teatro Sociale brings Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore.” 

Performance Dates: March 14, 2020

Following the success of ROHM’s new co-production of Delibes’ “Lakmé,” the opera travels to Beijing to be performed at the city’s National Centre for Performing Arts

Concerts 

Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 will be presented by Teatro Colón Buenos Aires under the baton of José Cura. The four soloists in Ode to Joy will be sung by singers from Teatro Colón Buenos Aires.

The Bolshoi Theatre will present an operatic concert in two parts, one dedicated to the European repertoire and the other to the Russian. Philipp Chizhevsky conducts a host of leading soloists from the Bolshoi Opera.
Performance Date: Nov. 1, 2019
Katherine Jenkins and Thomas Hampson join forces for an evening of arias and Broadway hits with Sergey Smbatyan conducting the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra.
Performance Date: March 12, 2020
Family & Education 
Ravel’s “L’Enfant et les Sortilèges” is set to be presented by Opéra de Lyon led by Philippe Forget. Gregoire Pont creates incredible visual effects, in a production by James Bonas.
