Works by Andre Previn, Giuseppe Verdi, and Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky will be presented by Syracuse Opera in its 42nd season. Lisa Smith, executive director, announced the 2016-2017 lineup Sunday from the stage of Crouse Hinds Theater before the curtain went up on the final show of this season, "My Fair Lady."

Lawrence Loh, artistic director and principal conductor of the Syracuse Opera, will open the season, conducting Previn's adaptation of Tennessee Williams' "A Streetcar Named Desire." It was premiered by San Francisco Opera in 1998 with Renee Fleming in the role of Blanche DuBois, Ron Gilfry as Stanley Kowalski, and Elizabeth Futral as Stella. "Streetcar" will play Oct, 28 and 30, in the Crouse Hinds auditorium.

"Rigoletto," Verdi's 1851 version of a play by Victor Hugo, has been performed five times by Syracuse Opera, most recently in the 2007-2008 season. The tragic story, enacted in three scenes and sung in Italian, will be staged Feb. 10 and 12, 2017. Italian conductor Christian Capocaccia, who made his debut with the Syracuse Opera in February, will return to conduct "Rigoletto."

New to the company is Tchaikovsky's lyric opera "Eugene Onegin," based on Pushkin's novel in verse about a selfish hero who lives to regret his cavalier ways. The three-act opera, which is a series of scenes from Onegin's life, had its premier in Moscow in 1879. Syracuse Opera will present it April 7 and 9, 2017 in the Crouse Hinds auditorium.

Friday curtain times are 8 p.m., and Sunday performances are at 2 p.m. Season subscriptions range from $26 to $136. Subscription renewals will start in May with new subscriptions and tickets available starting in June at Symphoria's box office, 234 Harrison St., online at syracuseopera.org or by calling 315-476-7372.
