Christina Scheppelmann will assume the position of General Director at La Monnaie/De Munt in Brussels, Belgium, following the completion of her five-year contract with Seattle Opera.

Scheppelmann, the fourth General Director of Seattle Opera, will conclude her tenure after the 2023-24 season.

During her leadership, the company achieved significant milestones, including the world premiere of “A Thousand Splendid Suns,” the launch of key programs, an expansion of community partnerships, and the introduction of over 100 new artists, with nearly 50 from international backgrounds.

“Leading Seattle Opera is a tremendous opportunity,” said Scheppelmann in an official press statement. “The company boasts an incredible staff, orchestra, chorus, and crew, as well as a wonderful, supportive audience, all of whom I will miss greatly. I love this city and the opera community in this region, which has welcomed me wholeheartedly. I could not pass up the opportunity to lead one of the great European opera companies while also being closer to my family. But for now, there is much work to do and more opera to come in the year ahead, and I look forward to sharing what we have in store.”

Scheppelmann was the first General Director of the Royal Opera Muscat and was director of artistic operations at the Washington National Opera for 11 years. She also worked as the General Director of the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
