Metropolitan Opera 50th Anniversary Gala As Seen Backstage

By Francisco Salazar

The Metropolitan Opera 50th anniversary Gala promised to be a night filled with glamour and star power that reunited some of opera’s greatest singers on the same stage.

It was a night that included some of the most popular pieces in the repertoire as well as some lesser known music that highlighted the Met’s growing and diverse repertoire. On many occasions, galas are filled with mysticism as to what the stars will wear or what goes on backstage. But on this occasion, the stars made it easy for audiences to see the backstage workings. What we saw was a party.

Pretty Yende took pictures with the majority of the singers while Isabel Leonard took a selfie with Sonya Yoncheva. Anna Netrebko showed off her unique geisha costume created especially for the gala. Vittorio Grigolo shared a selfie with Netrebko and Kristine Opolais before the gala. Michael Fabiano also took a picture with his fellow tenors while Angela Meade shared a tender moment with her husband. To sum it up below, this was a party and one that you’ll rarely see in opera. Check it out!
