Manitoba Opera is singing a happy song after posting a $5,549 surplus on a $2-million budget last season.

It is the 12th time in 15 seasons that the opera company has ended its year in the black, although it still carries an accumulated debt of $234,198.

“Across the board, the 2014-15 season was one of the company’s finest,” said Manitoba Opera general director and CEO Larry Desrochers in a press release. “From the inclusion of 50 former refugees in Fidelio to the pageantry of Turandot, from the wide array of audience engagement events to the breakthough performances of local artists, this season was filled with awe-inspiring and unforgettable moments.”
